Private Medical Insurance

Private Medical Insurance

Private medical insurance provides you with access to private health facilities across the UK.

It is designed for the treatment of acute conditions and ensures you are quickly diagnosed and receive the best quality treatment.

Think that private medical insurance is a privilege afforded only to the wealthy, right? Wrong!

All medical insurance providers offer a range of products to suit every budget, meaning prioritising you and your family's healthcare provisions is more affordable than ever.

Taking out Health Insurance provides you with access to cutting-edge cancer treatment, including drugs and procedures that don’t tend to be available on the NHS because the cost is prohibitive.

Underwriting

An important decision to make when taking Private Medical Insurance is the type of medical underwriting you choose.

Moratorium Underwriting
The most common type of medical underwriting for Health Insurance. Rather than asking about your medical history in full it simply excludes most pre-existing medical conditions you’ve suffered from over a set period, usually the past 5 years.

Full Medical Underwriting
You will need to disclose your entire medical history to the insurer from the start. As a result the insurer will take your health into consideration and any exclusions due to pre-existing medical conditions will be set out from the inception of the policy.

What is Covered?

Private Medical Insurance will only cover the cost of treatment for acute conditions, it is not designed to treat chronic conditions.

What isn't Covered?

Each provider is different in the nuances of their coverage, but in general, the following will not be covered: -

  • Pre-existing Medical Conditions
  • Chronic Conditions
  • GP Services
  • Emergency Services
  • Normal Pregnancy

Extensive Cancer Cover

Taking out Health Insurance provides you with access to cutting-edge cancer treatment, including drugs and procedures that don’t tend to be available on the NHS because the cost is prohibitive.

How Much Does Medical Insurance Cost, and How Can I Affect the Cost?

Private Health Insurance varies significantly in cost due to variety of factors. Those factors that are fixed include: -

Age, Location, Smoker Status.

Factors that can be changed to alter cost/cost include: -

Level of Outpatient cover, List of hospitals available to you (top level cover includes all London hospitals), Policy Excess and which additional policy extras you decide to include.
